As a partner, the Army is involved in the NHRA Youth & Education Services program. The NHRA YES Program presented by the U.S. Army is devoted to educating students on the wide range of careers in the NHRA.
To further extend the Army's involvement in the sport, the Army recruited Tony Schumacher to drive the Army Top Fuel dragster. When "The Sarge" isn't on the track he visits schools in each race market for the chance to interact with students and speak with them about teamwork and the Army.
Budweiser, the official beer of NHRA, sponsors the $100,000 Big Bud Shootout at Pomona for Top Fuel drivers and the Big Bud Shootout at Indianapolis for Funny Car competitors. In conjunction with those programs, Budweiser awards $4,000 to the No. 1 qualifier in Top Fuel and Funny Car at each NHRA national event. Budweiser also supports the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series as a team sponsor.
In addition to being the official auto parts store of NHRA, Checker Schuck’s Kragen, will sponsor a two-car Funny Car team in 2002 with drivers Del Worsham and Johnny Gray, as well as the Checker Schuck’s Kragen Nationals presented by Pennzoil in Phoenix.
